I don’t know how it works, but I know how difficult it is to capture someone’s attention even when you’re in the room—in real life. Your brother has a familiar path to you, one he’s used since you were 13, when you were receptive to other senses, as are most children and teens. That’s what I think. … I’m not sure if it’s just growing up or something … Could be part of growing up because of changes in the body, chemicals in the brain. I wish I knew.

… I’m seeing myself like I’m watching myself in a movie … This is how I learned to tune in to my psychic self, by viewing the future or a past life on a movie screen. Maybe we use this trick to distance our emotions. I would strive to continue this technique.

… in the dream I dropped a quarter … A good prop, with substance, sound and value.

… a saxophone orange colored hair clip … A unique and unmistakable cue.

… The next day in real waking life … Great timing. If the dream was weeks or months ago, you might have forgotten.

… the story isn’t life changing or anything amazing … I think it IS amazing. Accurate and timely. Just enough to get your attention and show what’s possible without scaring the willies out of you.

… I just wonder how I had that psychic dream … I wonder too.

… How do I have more psychic dreams? … Think of the skill as a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. Trust what you feel in your gut. You can try meditating, go to the movies, surround the theater with a bubble of protective white light. Only invite energies that can benefit you. Take a seat, dim the lights, see the curtains slowly open.

A couple of cautions: No Ouija boards. No drugs.

I think your dreams were both premonitions of Matt’s distress and death, and of his reaching out. I can see why you sometimes think that talking with an old friend might have eased his pain. Maybe it would have. Maybe not. But we can’t take on the responsibility for the choices other people make. He chose distance. He chose not to share his new number with you. I think you did what was reasonable. When you thought of him, you made an effort. It sounds like you were more open to restoring a friendship than he was, and did your best to try. I believe sometimes our spirits meet and drift apart like they’re meant to, it might be only a glance shared with a stranger on the street. It can be painful for those left behind … those who saw more, different, possibilities. Maybe this experience was meant to prepare you for a future time when you say to a friend, “This won’t happen again. Talk to me!” Just a thought.

I woke this morning to a phone’s ringing—a dream phone, not a real life phone. The voice of an old woman was calling my name. It wasn’t my voice. It sounded familiar but I can’t place it. It’s creepy to hear a voice in your head that’s not your own.

Three things strike me about this story: the ghost communicating in a dream; the child’s vision of Papa; and especially the light touch on the shoulder. I must have received a dozen stories that mention ghost or spirit “touches,” mostly on the shoulder. Often the writer makes brief note of a ghost touch within the main story. It must take a lot of energy to bridge the afterlife, don’t you think. But I’ve heard it so often, I plan to dedicate a new page on Dreamwatch.com to Ghost Touches. Tell Your Story!

I love that your idea came to you in a dream. I have had many dreams and visions (waking dreams), in fact, I had a dream about my house years before I was able to buy a house. When I saw the deck in my backyard, I knew this was the house that was promised to me. If I may – God said, “Whatever I have planned for your life has already come to pass in my kingdom. All you need to do is walk it out.”

Thanks for your story, Jan. It’s understandable that those early dreams were scary. It’s easy to look at paranormal experiences sitting at the computer on a Sunday afternoon, but unexpected visitations sometimes scare the willies out of me, too; over the years I’ve been able to shut them down. The wind chimes, the puddle of water, the baby, and the cigar aroma don’t surprise me, they’re not uncommon manifestations. But the timing—now—surprises me too because you seem to be comfortable on a new path. I have a few of thoughts … thinking out loud so use your own judgment. Your insight seems right on to me. First, he may be checking on your welfare and that of his children in your new family unit. Assure him you’re happy and have moved on; he need not be concerned, nor should he interfere in your reality. Second, the recent arrival of the baby may have sparked an interest, like a beacon. I believe we reincarnate in groups and he may know and be checking on this soul. Third, he may be trying to get your attention to warn you about something you’re not yet aware of. Ask him. Fourth, the energy of teenage girls is a powerful thing and may have pulled him back. You should be direct with him. Maybe tell him he’s scaring you and the girls, and his return is unnecessary and unwanted. You have the power in this physical existence. Your spirits will reunite—but not now. You have work to do here. Okay, I rambled. One of these ideas might ring true. Go with your instincts. Anyone else have a thought about, “Why now?”
